Issuance of Commemorative Coins in Conjunction with the 60th Anniversary of National Archives of MalaysiaRef No : 11/17/20 04 Dec 2017 Embargo : For immediate release
Bank Negara Malaysia is issuing commemorative coins in conjunction with the 60th Anniversary of National Archives of Malaysia on 4 December 2017.
The commemorative coins were launched by Datuk Azemi Abdul Aziz, Director General of National Archives of Malaysia today.
Specifications of the commemorative coins are as follows:
Coloured Silver Commemorative Coin (proof)
The proof coloured coin is made of Fine Silver with 99.9 purity and weighs 31.10 grams. It has a face value of RM10 and will be sold at RM230 a piece. The mintage quantity is 500 pieces.
Nordic Gold Brilliant Uncirculated (B.U) Commemorative Coin
The Nordic Gold (B.U) coin has a face value of RM1 and will be sold at RM10 each. The mintage quantity is 10,000 pieces.
Note: Prices stated above are subject to GST of 6%.
These commemorative coins are also available in a Set of 2. The Set of 2 comprises the coloured silver proof and nordic gold proof coins. This set will be sold at RM280 per set (price is subject to GST of 6%) with 700 sets available. Detailed specifications of the coins are as per Appendix I.
The design descriptive of the commemorative coins is as follows:
The words 60th ANNIVERSARY OF NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF MALAYSIA is depicted clockwise on half the circumference of the coin. The orange and gold coloured anniversary logo at the centre of the coin represents the celebration of the National Archives of Malaysia’s diamond jubilee.
The image at the centre of the coin depicts the logo of National Archives of Malaysia where pieces of paper are stacked together, representing national documents and records. The star in the middle of the paper signifies the star of the national flag, a symbol of Malaysian unity. The words Arkib Negara Malaysia in both roman and jawi script encircling the Archive’s logo show their responsibility in safekeeping the national documents and records. Sixty dentils inscribed along the coin represent the Archive’s 60 years of establishment. The name “BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA” as the issuing authority of the commemorative coins is featured on the upper circumference of the coin, while the face value of the coin is depicted at the lower circumference of the coin.

Public Viewing and Sale
Display units of the coins will be available for public viewing from Tuesday, 12 December 2017 at Bank Negara Malaysia’s Museum and Art Gallery and at the Bank’s offices in Penang, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching and Kuala Terengganu.
In order to provide a fair opportunity for the public to buy these limited edition coins, there will be a purchase limit (a set of 2, a silver coin and three Nordic Gold coins per person). To improve buying convenience, the public will also be able to place their orders through a new online ordering facility. Further information on the online ordering facility, ordering and collection period will be informed to the public in a press release prior to the sale date.
