International Investment Position (IIP) Report
The IIP Report is a quarterly report which records the flow and stock of the external assets and liabilities of a resident company vis-a-vis its non-resident counterparties. Companies are required to provide details on their external exposures in terms of equity investment, portfolio investment, loans, etc. The data from the IIP Report provides valuable input for the compilation of Malaysia's Balance of Payments (BOP) and International Investment Position (IIP).
With effect from Quarter 1, 2008, Bank Negara Malaysia (the Bank) and the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) will jointly collect data on IIP. The data collected will be shared by the Bank and DOSM. This joint exercise will improve compilation efficiency and reduce reporting burden as companies only need to submit one IIP Report to the Bank. The IIP Report replaces the two reports below:
- the Bank's Quarterly Report on External Assets and Liabilities (EAL)
- DOSM's Quarterly Survey of International Investment and Services
The IIP data is collected under Section 78 of the Central Bank of Malaysia Act 2009 and Section 2 of the Statistics Act 1965. Companies' data is treated with strict confidentiality by both agencies and will not be disclosed to third parties.
