(a) Application Process
- How do I apply for FSTEP?
To apply, you can either complete the on-line pre admission form provided in the website or write-in directly to FSTEP and fax it +603 2031 4766 together with your resume.
- Can I edit or delete information on my online job-application?
Before submitting your application, we would strongly advise that you re-read to confirm the information you have entered as your application cannot be retrieved for editing after submission (Step 2 of the application process). In the case where Bank Negara Malaysia receives multiple applications, only the most recent submission will be considered.
- What documents must I submit in order for my application to be considered complete?
At this stage, you need not furnish us with any documentation. An application would be considered complete if all required fields (i.e fields marked * ) are filled. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted via e-mail with further instructions.
- After I have applied, how will I know if my application has been received?
Your application submission is successful if you are diverted to the Confirmation Slip page. Please print the Confirmation Slip for your future reference.
- May I submit application / apply for future intakes?
The application for FSTEP is only for current intake. The FSTEP website will be updated to inform on the application period for the next intake. Announcements will also be made in the major newspapers and/or other media from time to time.
- I am currently in my final year at university/college. Am I eligible to apply for this programme?
To be eligible for FSTEP, the applicant must have completed his/her undergraduate education and obtained final academic results before the commencement of FSTEP 2nd batch programme due on July 2008. Undergraduates who have completed their academic studies and who, at the time of application, are undergoing industrial training as the last component of their course, are also eligible provided they would have completed the training at the time FSTEP intake commences.
- When is the closing date for application?
For the 2nd batch intake, the closing date for foreign based university graduates is 21 June 2008.
- When will the results of the FSTEP selection be announced?
The selection process is currently in progress. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted via email for further screening and interview. Successful candidates will be notified by end of June 2008.
(b) Programme Requirements
- What are the admission criteria?
To be eligible for FSTEP, applicants must be a Malaysian citizen with minimum of a degree qualification or equivalent or higher obtained recently either at a local or oversea university/college. Applicants from related as well as other disciplines are welcomed.
(c) About The Programme
- When will this programme commence?
Tentative date will be in July 2008.
- Is the programme full-time or part time?
FSTEP is a full-time intensive programme.
- Where will be the programme be conducted?
The programme will be conducted at a dedicated training center in Kuala Lumpur.
- How is the programme conducted?
FSTEP consists of two main parts - intensive classroom and on-the-job training. For the first six months of the programme, students will be exposed to modules on conventional banking, Islamic banking, insurance and takaful through a series of lectures, workshops, case studies, simulations and study visits. Students will also pursue self-development courses. The remaining 6 months will be on-the-job training, whereby students will undergo their internship with a financial institution in either the banking or insurance industry.
- Will there be another intake for FSTEP? How will I know?
Yes, FSTEP is intended to be an on-going programme. The website will be regularly updated with the latest information. Look out for further announcement on the FSTEP intake in major local newspapers.
(d) Terms and Conditions of the Programme
- Will there be a bonding contract? If yes, for how long?
Upon accepting the FSTEP scholarship and its terms and conditions, each student will be bonded throughout the training period and for another year subsequent to absorption into the financial sector.
- What happen if I withdraw from the programme within the bonding period?
Students of FSTEP who withdraw from the programme will be required to pay back the amount spent on their allowance and training costs.
(e) Leave of Absence

Will I be able to take a leave of absence from FSTEP?
FSTEP is an intensive, full-time programme. Participants of the programme are expected to accord full commitment to complete all components of the programme. Leave of absence may be discretionally granted on compassionate grounds.
All applications will be given due consideration and only shortlisted applicants will be notified.
