Revision and expansion of the loans/financing data in the Monthly Highlights and Statistics and Financial Inclusion Data for Malaysia microsite (from August 2022 publication onward)
Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) is pleased to inform that from August 2022 onwards, the publication of statistical tables related to loans/financing will be revised and expanded. This refers to data from July 2022 onward, published in the Monthly Highlights and Statistics (MHS) and Financial Inclusion Data for Malaysia microsite (FINC Microsite) (excluding Pembiayaan Mikro data). The current set of loan/financing data is based on reporting requirements established in 1997, with several enhancements over the years to reflect developments in the financial sector. The new set of loan/financing data will be based on the latest requirements with more accurate data definition and reporting methodology, which will enhance data quality, granularity, and comparability to facilitate data analysis and informed decision-making. Key changes on data definitions and other revisions made to tables are summarised in Appendix 1.
The revision will involve 20 MHS tables and 14 FINC microsite tables related to loans/financing and include data from July 2021 to provide a reasonable time series data for analysis of historical trends. Thus, users would observe a level shift in most of the time series of loans/financing data beginning July 2021, but the underlying growth trends remain largely consistent. Furthermore, the latest 6-month data will be refreshed monthly, and a 12-month data refresh will be conducted on an annual basis in January publication (December data) in order to take into account any historical resubmission performed by reporting entities.
BNM would like to extend its appreciation to all banking institutions for their significant effort and contribution towards this successful transition to the new set of loan/financing data.
