Association of Shariah Advisors in Islamic Finance Malaysia (ASAS)
Association of Shariah Advisors in Islamic Finance Malaysia (ASAS) is a globally oriented professional body, officially registered on 12 April 2011, with the objective of ensuring the highest level of professionalism among Shariah advisors and experts of Islamic finance. Recognised in Malaysia’s Financial Sector Blueprints 2011-2020 and 2022-2026, ASAS supports talent development via its comprehensive Professional Development Programme (PDP), which includes its flagship certification programmes for Shariah Advisors; Certified Shariah Advisor (CSA) and Certified Shariah Practitioner (CSP). These programmes are designed to equip members with both scholarly and practical skills required for advisory and supervisory roles. To support global access, ASAS facilitates an International Online Cohort for both CSA and CSP, enabling practitioners from around the world to participate in their flagship certification tracks.
ASAS also offers monthly Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes which provide updates on regulatory changes, emerging issues, and practical case studies to ensure members remain current and effective.
ASAS recently launched the Shariah Committee Succession Plan Initiative (SCSPI), which aims to cultivate future leaders and ensure a sustainable talent pipeline for Shariah Committees across the Islamic finance sector.
ASAS also fosters a vibrant professional community through regular events and publications. Its flagship event, the ASAS Shariah Officer Forum (ASSOF), a vital annual tradition, where Shariah officers gather in a dynamic, dialogue driven environment to spotlight their pivotal roles within financial institutions. By fostering a spirit of unity and mutual support, the forum reinforces the immense value these professionals bring to the Islamic finance industry strengthening their collective impact and celebrating the essence of collaboration in shaping a resilient, Shariah compliant financial future. Complementing this is the ASAS Liqa’, an annual networking forum that promotes peer engagement and the sharing of best practices.
