It is against this challenging global backdrop of recent years that Malaysia’s Labuan International Business and Financial Centre (Labuan IBFC) is seeking to make a stronger mark for itself. It plans to develop a niche in the areas of Islamic finance/sustainability, captive insurance and digital financial services, while strengthening its regulations and compliance with international standards to move away from the stigma associated with offshore centres. These are encapsulated in its five-year strategic roadmap that runs from 2022 to 2026.
