Introduction
GHB supports Malaysian halal businesses, particularly SMEs, with technical know-how and financial resources to adopt impactful and sustainable greener practices. These practices help enhance business competitiveness and resilience.
Decarbonising is essential to sustaining competitiveness and meeting global environmental commitments. Aside from enjoying cost savings and greater resource efficiency, SMEs that transition early stand to benefit from preferential procurement from buyers and gain access to new markets.
SMEs will get complimentary technical assistance, affordable green financing and subsidised access to carbon accounting software. SMEs are expected to attend training provided and report carbon emissions using partnering software providers. SMEs will undergo transition activities with support of participating banks’ funding from second year onwards.
Eligibility Criteria
Must be a Malaysian businesses registered with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) or any other relevant authority for Sabah and Sarawak; AND
Must be a SME (defined under SME Corporation Malaysia’s Guideline for SME Definition); AND
Must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Holds a valid and active halal certification; OR
- Committed to undergo halal certification process; OR
- Involved in the halal supply chain or provision of halal-related services.
Yes, as long as you fulfill the above criteria. No prior ESG experience is required.
Transition activities may include, but not limited to:
- purchase/use/rental/maintenance of green certified and sustainable premises/equipment/plant/materials and machineries
- hiring of consultant to advise on and expenses for transformation to sustainable business, and
- expenses to obtain sustainability certification.
