Announcement on the Formation of the Financial Services Professional Board and the Appointment of its Chairman and Board Members

Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) today announced the formation of the Financial Services Professional Board (FSPB) and the appointment of Tan Sri Dato’ Azman Hashim as its Chairman as well as nine Board members who are prominent individuals with significant experience in the corporate and financial industry including from the international community.
The FSPB is an industry-led initiative supported by BNM and the SC to drive the development and harmonisation of professional standards across the banking and insurance industry, Islamic finance and capital markets, working closely with regulators and the professional bodies within the financial services sector. The members are drawn from the industry to ensure that the professional standards meet the business imperatives of the industry and the demands for the financial industry to better serve the public interest given its important role in the economy.
The FSPB will have an important role in establishing a benchmark for high quality professional standards in the financial services industry and in promoting their consistent adoption by the industry. The harmonisation of standards will focus on qualifications, professional conduct and ethics as well as continuing professional development.
The Asian Institute of Finance (AIF) will perform responsibilities of the secretariat to the FSPB. The FSPB board members are as attached in Appendix I.
