Issuance of Commemorative Coins In Conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of Universiti Teknologi MARA

Bank Negara Malaysia is issuing three types of commemorative coins in conjunction with the 50 th anniversary of the establishment of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). The issuance of commemorative coins is in recognition of the significant role and contribution of UiTM in nurturing graduates in the areas of business, science and technology. Over the past 50 years, the graduates of UiTM have contributed towards the development of the broad spectrum of industries in the rapidly changing Malaysian economy.
The commemorative coins are legal tender and the technical specifications are as follows:
1) Gold Commemorative Coins (proof)
This proof coin is made of gold with 999.9 purity and weighs 7.96 grams. It has a face value of RM100 and will be sold at RM1,028 a piece. The mintage quantity is limited to 300 pieces.
2) Silver Commemorative Coin (proof)
This proof coin, with a face value of RM10 is made of Sterling silver with 92.5 purity and weighs 21.0 grams. It is priced at RM138 a piece. The mintage quantity is limited to 500 pieces.
3) Nordic Gold Brilliant Uncirculated (B.U) Commemorative Coin
The Nordic Gold (B.U) coin has a face value of RM1 and is sold at RM8 each. Mintage quantity is 10,000 pieces.
These coins are also available in sets of 3 and sets of 2. The sets of 3 consist of the gold, silver and Nordic gold proof coins. The set of 2 consists of the silver and Nordic gold proof coins. The sets of 3 and sets of 2 will be sold at RM1,268 and RM188 respectively.

The design descriptions of the 50 th Anniversary of UiTM commemorative coins are as follows:
The Obverse side of the Coin
The obverse side depicts the UiTM emblem as a background. The words "Universiti Teknologi Mara" appear on the upper circumference of the coin whilst the Jawi transcript appears on the lower circumference of the coin.
The Reverse Side of the Coin
The reverse side features the official logo of UiTM's 50 th anniversary (the stylized numeral "50"). The words "JUBLI EMAS UiTM 2006" appear on the upper circumference of the coin. The seven beads each on the left and right hand side of the reverse of the coin represent the 14 branches of UiTM campuses throughout the country. The words "BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA " and its denomination appear on the lower circumference of the coin.
These commemorative coins are minted and distributed by The Royal Mint of Malaysia and are available for sale from 9 November 2006 at the following outlets:
