Bank Negara Malaysia wishes to announce the commencement of the operations of the regional offices of Agensi Kaunseling Dan Pengurusan Kredit (AKPK) located at Bank Negara Malaysia's branches in Pulau Pinang, Johore Bahru, Kuala Terengganu, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu with effect from 2 October 2006. The establishment of these regional offices represents AKPK's continuous effort to ensure that its services are available to a wider segment of the Malaysian population.

All AKPK regional offices will provide advisory services, counselling and assistance to individuals on areas relating to credit, financial management and education as well as on debt restructuring. The services of AKPK are provided free of charge.

AKPK provides eligible individual borrowers assistance in restructuring debts relating to housing loans, hire purchase, credit card, charge card and other personal loans that have been obtained from institutions ¹ regulated by Bank Negara Malaysia . AKPK do not provide any credit facility to customers.
